I never thought that it could be this overwhelming to watch the video of your work. It was my first time to create on my own, so pardon me if I am going beyond flying colors in this post.

This is my first bridal gown, I am the one who designed and sew it. At first I am so reluctant of accepting this job but later I’ve asked my self that if it’s not now, then when? I am so lucky to think that I have those people who believe in me despite that I have nothing to show them yet. I find this project really challenging, since I also created 80% of the dress for the entourage. I never expected this to be this exhausting but at the same time exciting.

This experience opened me to a lot of learning and self-development, biggest is for me to realize that I am not the driver of the things that I will do – I felt more like an interpreter and the medium of their illusions. Meaning, I can’t create something just because I wish to – it’s not like I can tell them that since they hire me they need to wear the dress that I made, because I felt that it wasn’t my day it’s her day and everything will be more satisfying if you see her in the dress she love and she wish for. Designing an entourage is more complicated than I ever expected – coz despite all those things the interpretation and result would still depend on your creativity and skills.

The theme of the wedding, the venue, the likes and dislikes of the bride and the groom, what they wanted to see and expect, what are their dreams for this day and how they wanted it to come out are very few of the things to consider. And all of these things have to be compelled in my design and I need to express it in my own creative way, the way that they will be able to recognize my name on my work.

As for Mae – she is very simple. She doesn’t like white bridal gown, very specific that she wanted a sleeve, she doesn’t like bones on her gown, the gown must be as conservative as possible, she hoped to be in shape, she doesn’t like something very classical but also decline something very trendy close to common this days. Lastly she asks me to give her the simplest design I can. And here it goes.

A simple peach-flesh lace bridal gown with butterfly sleeve for Mae. The hemline of the gown were manually cut following its natural shape and creating random design of flower. The skirt is double layered with which the first is smaller than the outer one, intentionally made to create voluminous illusion. The Bride’s favorite part is the flower cut design on the neckline and the perfect flow of the sleeve. I added a belt made of glass beads and Swarovski crystals for the embellishment which was meticulously sequined. This is what I think is the image of her taste and this is exactly what I designed and imagined. After all what makes everything perfect is the happy bride on her dress at her most romantic self.
