Going to Boracay via Kalibo, Aklan and vice versa.

I am posting this for the benefits of those who are still heading towards their summer vacations in Boracay via Kalibo - Boracay - Kalibo route. Last time we took the route going here via Caticlan Aiport (now Boracay Airport) which is way more convenient and fast (Check my post HERE). This summer we have ran out of cheap fare on this route obliging us to take an alternative which is Kalibo to Boracay and Boracay to Kalibo, though this is quite popular; information over the web is quite vague to make me feel at ease and felt guided all the way, now here my personal experience then.

We touched down Kalibo Airport without any booking but with an idea that we can get a bus as a walk-in passenger. Booths offering bus tickets are inside the airport which is very visible from arrival area. The ticket cost at around Php200.00-300.00 with the boat fare depending on the package (e.g. regular or fast craft | van or bus) and tour companies.

This time we took the Southwest tour bus and Montenegro fast craft service which cost us 300.00/person, the reason is that the website provides a promising detail about the nice bus and hussle free rides and most of all we need the fastest and most affordable transportation since we arrived 30 minutes late of our scheduled arrival (4PM). Everyone is already hungry and tired.

Here is the photo of their bus, the inside is okay but it’s not as promising as what it was told on their website. The seats are quite comfortable but the covers are already old and a little stinky – some of the seats cannot be adjusted backward for a more comfortable position.

We departed from Kalibo Airport at around 5:30PM and arrived at Caticlan Jetty Port at 7:52PM (2 hours and 22 minutes). Good thing we already have the boat ticket included in the package, it saves us from the hussle of buying one on the jetty port. This trip was okay until we experience the way back from Boracay to Kalibo.

A porter from the Caticlan Boracay Transport MPC (CBTMPC) offered us a package of 200.00 pesos van ride to Kalibo from Caticlan Jetty Port with Boat ride. When I heard about van, I immediately thought of a blog stating that they tend to overload which creates a very uncomfortable two hour travel – plus the waiting time for the van to get full. I stated this reason and the porter bartered for another option.

Since we are travelling in a group of five, he offered us an exclusive van ride with Boat fare which cost Php1,800.00. Technically, it cost us 360.00 each (60 pesos higher than the bus ride offered by Southwest Tour). The boat is not a fast craft but I honestly prefer it since it has an open deck which will assure you of an easy escape in cases of emergency. We arrived at the Jetty port around 3:18PM and a guide help us to get into the terminal and provided us the van we hired. The van itself was nice and new and we all had a way more comfortable trip compared to the previous transportation we used.

The travel time only took us an hour and 10 minutes – which was very impressive! We still had time to take an early dinner and buy some take away from Kalibo. Time really matters right? Now, I am not talking about cheapest way but instead I would like to refer to the most reasonable option. Fast, comfortable, and with reasonable price – because not all the time we are willing to sacrifice the comfort especially if you are heading for a vacation with a couple spending their Honeymoon. At these cases you may want them to feel like prince and princess to the most affordable way you can.

For now, I would say that taking an exclusive van from Kalibo to Boracay and vice versa is the most reasonable options for those who are travelling in a group unless otherwise you have a better way per experience. Do you mind sharing it?

Mean while here is the information about Caticlan Boracay Transport MPC (CBTMPC).

    2. Hi sis, nag-van kami. Kiata yung name. Ok naman, 250 lang singil kasama na boat. Also di naman ganoon katagal waiting time, mga 15 mins lang because majority naman nung kasabay namin sa plane eh doon din papunta sa Caticlan. :)

    3. Hi I am new here, I would like to suggest if you can find the actual van that has already passenger inside then you have more chance to leave the airport early. There are some occasion when the driver say he is going to leave and not wait for other passengers is somewhat he has booked passenger from Catiklan back to the airport and he has to be in Catiklan on time that is why he has to go with or without you.

  8. Was able to get cheap fares Manila- Kalibo andvv. I got it for only 1, 468.00 from Air Asia. The catch is.. Our flight leaves the latest in the evening ( 8:00pm- 9:00pm) and leaves the earliest also in the morning ( 6:55am- 7:55am). What do you recommend for this kind of itinerary?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies

    1. The latest banca you can catch from Caticlan to Boracay leaves at 9:30 (I heard some leaves at 10 - not sure though). But since your flight arrives at 9PM you might really need to wait until the next day considering that Kalibo to Boracay has a travel time of approximately 2 hours.

Your early flight from caticlan is also at risk if you want to leave same day; you can read through the guide below and decide if you can – for me that might be possible provided with a good weather and a really fast transportation for Caticlan-Kalibo. But the safest way to go is to leave the day before your flight. (http://www.senyoritalakwachera.com/2012/10/boracays-commuters-guide.html)

1.Jetty Port is open as early as 4 am. But, if you want to be very sure that you catch the earliest boat then be advice to be early as the volume of the passengers that may come first in the fort is unpredictable.
2.We went out of the hotel 4:30 am, a staff at the hotel assisted us to get a tricycle going to the port. This time the assistance of the very accommodating hotel staff is really a great help.
3.Before 5am we are already at the line in the Jetty port.
4.5:00 AM sharp is the first trip. Due to the number of passengers that came first before us we had the second boat, but it’s fine as it only has a few minutes interval from the first boat.
5.We arrived at the Jetty port of Caticlan at around 5:30AM – that time we are worry free and confident that we will not be late for our flight. Hehe.
6.We arrived at the airport before 6:00AM and that was awesome. We still had time to grab our second cup of coffee for that day and even had the time to packed our stomach with breakfast.
7.Bottom line – early birds catches early boat.

  31. We are also going to Boracay next year (April 7 to April 11) via Kalibo from Clark Airport on Cebu Pacific. Since it is our first time, we took the offer of Cebu Pacific called CEB Transfers at 900 Pesos each both ways for a total of 4,500 Pesos for all of us (family of 5). The cost was added to the ticket fare I purchased. Whatever savings I earned from their promo (599 Pesos to Kalibo one way), napunta naman dito sa CEB transfers. Anyway, CEB transfers includes transportation from Kalibo to Caticlan Jetty Port, the boat ride, environment fell, terminal fee all the way to our hotel and back. As for hotel, I made my booking through My Boracay Guide website. I am not sure if I made the right choice but I will surely comeback to you and share my experience.
