Scenic Maira-ira Cove - Blue Lagoon Pagudpud Ilocos Norte

Maira-ira Cove commonly known as The Blue lagoon is nestled in Maira ira Point – Luzon's mainland’s northernmost tip. Maira-ira Cove is one of the most scenic beaches I have seen so far – it is simple and unspoiled. The white sand is shining and finely pristine, the water is amazingly clear on the shore transforming to bright azure as it grows deep and reflecting the sky drawing its horizon. Then I keep saying “now I know why its called Blue lagoon”.

According to Chad, the resort owner and manager the cove's water can be as calm as pond on April, as its when amihan (cool northeast wind) rest from blowing and bringing huge wave in this side of the island.

We went there last week of January, the month when the waves is less than enough for the surfers and more than enough for those who just want to swim and enjoy the beach. Most of the tourist opted to stay on the foot deep and wait for the wave to splash – so as us.

How to get to Maira-ira Cove Blue lagoon:

Coming from Manila you can take any bus to Laoag, Ilocos Norte or take a plane Manila to Laoag. From any point in Laoag, take a tricycle going to Pagudpud terminal. Tell the conductor to drop you off at Pagudpud Municipal Hall where in you can see a lot of tricycle you can hire going to blue lagoon.

If you are coming from the neighboring Saud beach, Pagudpud you can take a tricycle to the highway, to the clamshell monument and wait for any Cagayan-bound bus. Again, get down at Gawa and take a tricycle to the beach. You can also opt to take a direct tricycle transfers from Saud to Maira-ira which can cost you anywhere around 300-500.

  1. Hi, which beach is nicer, Saud or blue lagoon?

    1. hmmmm... that would depend on your likings :) Saud has a nice view, swimmable area is bigger, the sea is calm during Amihan and this place is closer or more accessible from the municipal proper of Pagudpud. The Maira-ira cove on the other hand is a Diamond on the rough, the view is justifiable wondrous :) the beach in this part has amazingly whiter and finer sand as the ones you can find in Boracay one or even better compared to some station. The water is so clear but the swimmable area is smaller. Blue lagoon is more than 16 kilometers away from the intersection road of Maira-ira and Saud, given the distance; this place assures a quieter and tranquil vacation.

  2. hi, christeen, my girlfriend and I are planning to go to Ilocos Norte on May 2013 and i'm planning on proposing to her, can you help me decide which beach is better? Saud or blue lagoon, i prefer a beach with a nice romantic sunset(a must), serene and uncrowded.

    1. Hey,

First of all thank you so much for considering my opinion. Your comment makes my day or year as a blogger (w/ twinkling eyes).

If you are proposing and would love a romantic sunset in Pagudpud, I believe the best choice is in Saud Beach. There, you can see the sun setting at the horizon of the sea close to those little yet visible windmills of Bangui. Saud may have a little more tourist than of Blue Lagoon but I guess it’s not something that we can consider as “crowded”. <3

Wish you all the best!! xoxo

  3. Hi Christeen. Which beach would be more ideal for a family vacation, Saud or Blue Lagoon? We're travelling end of Oct with an 8-year old and a senior citizen. Thanks!

    1. I'd say Saud Beach, given that it is more accessible and the swimmable beach area is bigger, more accommodation and food houses - things that must be considered when travelling with kids and elders :)

    2. Hi Christeen! How about as a couple - Saud Beach or Blue Lagoon? We were hoping to stay in somewhere preferably beachfront or just a walk to the beach? Thanks in advance of the reply!

    3. It depends we met this couple surfer who preferred to do adventure, hiking and lonesome moments together – they always go Blue Lagoon. For me and my partner who’d always love a long walk and swim – Saud is our choice. In Blue Lagoon, almost the entire swimmable area is in front of Hanna’s; other accommodation may require you a 5-10 minutes’ walk to get there. hope that help ;)

  5. Hi Christeen,

I am an avid fisherman, and will be traveling to the area this coming December. I'm hoping to do some saltwater fishing, but not from a boat. I would like to try a spot to fish from land. Any recommendations? Thanks!

tipping websites than the others the very best form of practice would be to garner expert reviews,
